Invest in YOU—Because You’re the Asset”
You Are Worth the Investment

Mama’s Storytime:
Let me take you back to a chapter of my life that was real quiet on the outside…
but screaming on the inside.
I was showing up for everybody —
Running my household, helping friends, volunteering at the church, working a job I didn’t love but convinced myself I should be grateful for.
And every now and then, I’d get this tug… a nudge…
Like my soul was trying to say:
“Hey. What about me?”
I’d see a flyer for a writing retreat and think,
“Oooh, that sounds like something that would fill me up…”
…but I’d close the browser and go right back to folding towels and fixing dinner.
I’d hear someone talk about hiring a coach or taking a course,
and I’d think,
“I wish I had the time and money for something like that.”
…but I’d talk myself right out of it. Every single time.
And what hurt the most?
I didn’t even notice how far I had drifted from my own dreams.
I had convinced myself that everybody else came first.
That my role was to support, not shine.
That my dreams were optional — and everybody else’s were urgent.
But chile… let me tell you the moment it shifted.
One day I was watching my granddaughter — smart as a whip, full of big ideas — and I heard her say to her friend:
“My grandma used to want to be a writer. But she never did it.”
That "used to" pierced me.
Because it was true.
I used to want to.
I used to believe I could.
I used to imagine a different life.
And right there, in my living room, I felt the weight of what I was teaching her —
Not with my words… but with my neglect.
I was teaching her that it was okay to put yourself last.
That dreams had expiration dates.
That self-sacrifice was the price of womanhood.
And I knew right then: something had to change.
So I did something I’d never done before:
I signed up for a class — for me.
Not because I had the money to waste.
Not because it was easy.
But because I was done telling myself no.
That small “yes” was the beginning of everything.
It unlocked the woman I had buried underneath duty and doubt.
And baby, once I gave myself permission to invest in me —
my whole life started to look richer.
Not just in money…
But in joy. In peace. In confidence.
In clarity about who I am and why I’m still here.
So let me say this to you as plain as I can:
You are worth it.
Not someday. Not after the kids are grown. Not when things settle down.
Now.
Don’t wait until your reflection forgets the dream you used to carry.
Water it today.
Invest in it today.
And baby…
Don’t just live the life that happens to you.
Live the life you build.
From Mama’s Chair:
“If you don’t pour into you, baby, you’ll be running on fumes trying to feed everybody else.”
Let me tell you something — and I need you to hear it in your bones:
You are not an expense.
You are an asset.
And baby, assets grow when they’re invested in.
But far too many of us have been taught to give, give, give —
our time, our talent, our energy —
to everyone else but ourselves.
We’ll swipe a card for a family trip.
Write a check for somebody else’s dream.
Spend hours helping folks reach their goals.
But when it comes time to spend money, time, or love on us?
Chile, suddenly we got a budget.
Suddenly we got guilt.
The Truth?
Not investing in yourself is the most expensive mistake you can make.
It costs you your confidence.
Your creativity.
Your peace.
Your progress.
You don’t need another sale, another “later,” another reason to wait.
You are the reason.
You are the return.
You are the reward.
Mama’s Soulwork: Ask yourself this:
“Where in my life am I expecting a harvest… but refusing to plant?”
Now write down 3 ways you can invest in yourself this month. Could be:
Signing up for a course
Taking a full day off to rest
Hiring a mentor
Starting therapy
Creating space for your own dream
Whatever it is — commit to it. Your future self is watching.

Charlie Hustle’s Tip of the Week:
“The best return on investment? You. Always you.”

Charlie says this:
You wouldn’t expect a car to drive cross-country on an empty tank.
So why you expect your life to take off when you ain’t fueled up?
Put money behind your mouth.
Put time behind your talent.
Put belief behind your name.
“You are not a liability — you are a legacy in the making.”
— Charlie Hustle
Mama’s Final Word:
Don’t wait for someone else to believe in you before you act.

A minute or a month —

You were not made to stay stuck.

With wisdom, grace, and a gentle push forward,
– Mama Keys/
